Peace Sign Photo Mystery Solved
I originally wrote the prose poem “Peace Sign” on November 3, 2023.In December 2024, I won a first-place poetry award for my photo-ekphrastic poem, Peace Sign from Line of Advance Literary Journal. I had been trying to track down the photographer and the story behind the photo for over two years.
I was notified March 25, 2025 that David Terry, the man who took the photo of the peace sign, wanted his photo credit added to the journal.This led me to links in the Winchester Star that tell the whole story of how a giant peace sign got bulldozed into the earth outside of Camp Eagle, Hue, Vietnam in 1971.March 25, 2025 also happened to be the one year anniversary of my visit to Camp Eagle, Vietnam (where the photo was taken) with my sister and dad (who was stationed there 68-69).
